In the old Yellowstone Trail Association, the local Trailman was a most important member. The new Yellowstone Trail Association, Inc. will reinstate the position of the Trailman. The historic term “Trailman” will be kept, but, in keeping with modern sensitivities, it is to be interpreted as “Trailperson.” Each community had a Trailman to be the eyes and ears of the organization. They made things happen for the Trail in their area.
And that is what the new Yellowstone Trail Association needs - interested Trailmen to take initiatives in their area. Take an active role and apply to be one now! Find one or more projects you would like to undertake and let us know on the membership application.
Members living on or near the Trail may apply for, or be appointed as, Trailmen for renewable terms. Responsibilities for each Trailman should be selected from the following:
1. Determine/confirm historic location(s) of the Yellowstone Trail in their area. Search for pictures and postcards to document the Trail for inclusion in Association publications and Association web site.
2. Promote membership in their area. (Association may provide a slide show for Trailman’s use.)
3. Act as local resource persons in their area.
4. Notify the Association of Trail related events, publications, and opportunities in their area.
5. Submit news releases to local papers.
6. Initiate and/or promote Trail related activities, events, etc.
7. Act as liaisons to local museums, historical societies, Chambers of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureaus.
8. Undertake or promote route signage in their area.
9. Other as needed and agreed upon.
