This is a list of towns along the Yellowstone Trail in Indiana.  They are arranged from west to east.  Mileages are from Minneapolis as recorded in the 1920's and are listed here as an approximate indication of modern distances.  Added to this list will be information about historic buildings, bridges, and sites. [The Mile-by-Mile pages are just being developed (Spring 2005) and will contain minimal information for some time.]

Valparaiso Evening Messenger, Friday, 12 July, 1918   YELLOWSTONE TRAIL BEING MARKED FROM COAST TO COAST
Word has been received in this city that the official markers are now being placed up along the Yellowstone Trail passing through Porter county.  It is expected the official marking committee erecting the signs will be in Valparaiso in a few days, and that within the next two weeks the Yellowstone Trail will have been officially marked through Porter county.  This national highway begins at the Pacific coast and runs through Washington, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, passing through Milwaukee and Chicago into Indiana, and proceeds through Hammond, Valparaiso, Plymouth, Bourbon, Warsaw, Winona, Pierceton, Larwill and Columbia City to Fort Wayne.  Thence the road will extend to the Atlantic coast.

Valparaiso Evening Messenger, Wednesday, 16 July, 1919  YELLOWSTONE TRAIL ASSOCIATION MEETS
No Change in Route as Now Laid Through Valparaiso
The Indiana section of the Yellowstone Trail Association met yesterday at Warsaw with about 125 delegates from the different Indiana towns along the route present.  Mr. Sam Trembley of Columbia City was elected Indiana Director and Trailsmen from each town on the road were appointed.  G. L. Maxwell was appointed trailsman for Valparaiso.  This city is assessed $150.00 for its share of expense which is used for marking routes, maps, guide stations and office expense.
We are indebted to Columbia City for being on the Yellowstone Trail.  Last March the Trail was ordered through Chicago, Michigan City, and South Bend.  Columbia City immediately got busy and with the help of Fort Wayne and several other cities along the route called a meeting of the Yellowstone Trail directors and succeeded in getting the route through Valparaiso, Plymouth, Warsaw, Columbia City and Fort Wayne.  Mr. Cooley, president of the Association, yesterday assured us that there would be no further change from the present location.  The State Highway Association now assures us of two cement roads: The Lincoln Highway and the Yellowstone Trail.

Warsaw Union, September 19 1927.  Beachwood Park at Hoffman Lake, a beautiful summer resort promoted and opened only about three or four years ago by William Person, is experiencing a great boom due to the construction of the new Yellowstone trail cement highway from Chicago. The new road passes within three blocks from the little lake with the picturesque islands. Chicago people are purchasing lots for $300 there which formerly sold for $50. Thirty-five cottages and a hotel have been constructed there.
